The 2023/24 NFL Season: What to expect
We are ramping up to the first week of NFL action and there’s a whole lot to expect this year. We got to see a number of teams in the offseason take their rosters to another level, with hype surrounding some of the best. Let’s talk about a few things we could expect to see this season along with some of the biggest moves that happened in the offseason.
The first thing that we can expect is the top teams to remain at the top. What we mean by that is the teams that were extremely competitive a season ago will continue to be. Those teams being the Kansas City Chiefs, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Philadelphia Eagles. All of these groups might not have necessarily improved across the board, but they haven’t done anything at all to make it seem like they won’t be great still.
You could also expect the rookie quarterbacks in this league to do some big things. Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Anthony Richardson will all be starters on day one and should be able to show out immediately. There are some concerns regarding Bryce Young’s offensive line because the Carolina Panthers let him get tossed around a few times during the preseason. However, when he gets an opportunity to sit back and dissect the field, he almost always puts the ball where it needs to be. As for Stroud, he’s got a few interesting weapons surrounding him with a strong head coach in Demeco Ryans. Then Anthony Richardson is one of the most versatile and unique quarterbacks that we’ve seen enter the NFL in some time. He’s got insane arm strength and phenomenal athleticism to make him a generational weapon for the Indianapolis Colts.
Another thing that you can expect is the New York Jets to have a hype train around them throughout the entire 2023 campaign. The Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers, signed Dalvin Cook, and inked a number of other notable wide receivers to reshape their future. After years of suffering offensively, this Jets squad looks like they can win a Super Bowl this season if all goes well. That’s how much of a difference Aaron Rodgers brings to this Jets team.
Also, you can expect Jonathan Taylor to play football at some point before this season comes to an end. Some think that he’ll hold out the entire season if he isn’t traded, but it doesn’t feel like that’s the case. He’s just 24 years old, and in the prime of his career. He’s already been able to garner offers from other teams, and if the coaching staff continues to take these offers, he’ll be moved before the trade deadline. Any team that trades for him will pay him his desired new contract almost immediately. I think that Taylor will play under those circumstances and might even work his way to a new contract from the Colts if they get desperate enough after those first four games that he’s on the PUP list.
Speaking of a big-time trade, that’s exactly what the Miami Dolphins did as well by bringing in Jalen Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams. You might have thought that the Dolphins were already a talented team across the board. Well, they took that to another level by bringing in one of the best cornerbacks that the league has to offer. Plus, we can’t forget that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been training all offseason on how to better handle his falls. We got to see him roll through a few tumbles during the preseason as well, which could help him stay healthier than expected and lead this Dolphins team into the postseason again.
Then we can’t forget about Darren Waller. Waller was very shockingly moved from the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason and sent down to the New York Giants. The Giants are a team that hasn’t really had a consistent and reliable weapon in the passing game for the past five years, and Waller is certainly going to be changing that up. He’s a large target at the tight end position to give Daniel Jones some relief in the middle of the field. For the Giants, this is a beautiful football decision. The problem really comes from the side of the Raiders. They didn’t exactly get a whole lot in return for Waller’s services and aren’t really going into a full rebuild either. It wasn’t a perfect decision, but not exactly a bad one either as they drafted his replacement shortly afterwards.
